Funded places available to get COVID-qualified
200 fee-free places are available to eligible Regional NSW residents to become certified in Infection Control to support some of our most vulnerable industries to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Throughout September and October, industry-specific training for retail, food handling, and transport and logistics industries is available at no cost to learners or employers via Registered Training Organisation Sureway
Skills Training (RTO 91058). A generalist unit is also available for other industries, also free under NSW Smart and Skilled funding.
Sureway Skills Training Operations Manager Judy Doulman said that initiative will enable business owners and employees to better respond to COVID-19 risks in the workplace and reduce transmission risk.
“Learners will gain skills in following organisational infection prevention and control procedures. This includes practical skills in implementing precautions and responding to infection risks in the workplace.”
“The industry-specific units will equip learners with skills they need right now to help stop the spread.”
Judy said that there has been a growing demand from employers for the qualification amongst new and existing team members.
“Infection prevention skills have been in high demand from both employers and volunteer organisations.” She said.
“In addition to practical risk-reduction, having a team member on site with this qualification is supporting customer confidence to re-engage with businesses.”
The Nationally Accredited Unit, which can be completed in up to 8 hours, also involves a practical workplace observation component.
“The knowledge section of the course is self-paced and completed by distance, where our qualified Training Facilitators are available to support learners via phone, email or Zoom.”
“The workplace component can be completed at your own workplace where practical, or we can make arrangements with you.”
Judy particularly encouraged those seeking work right now to consider upskilling in this area.
“Having this nationally recognised unit on your resume is now highly desirable for all industries, particularly in the higher-risk industries like aged care and hospitality.”
“If you are seeking work right now, especially in these industries, I would encourage you to get in and complete this training as soon as possible.”
Workplaces wishing to upskill their workforce were also welcome to enquire, said Judy.
“Group training sessions for workplaces are a great idea, we would love to chat with you about your workplace needs.”
Enrolments close on 29 September 2020 and places are limited.
